Agent of Change in an Office Vs Agent of Change in the World
Hypnosis, Neurolinguistics and What You Would Love To Create!
As a listener of the Agents of Everything podcast, you’ll likely already be aware that one of the hats I wear in life is that of Hypnotist. Another is that of Change Agent. The two are related but perhaps not identical, but that is not the musing I’m here to muse.
I guess I’m writing this right now because I’ve been reflecting on my journey as a hypnotist and, the truth is, I’ve not always had an easy relationship with that title due to a lot of cultural associations that go along with it (for one, popular notions are often in conflict with the honouring of personal sovereignty; something which I value most highly.)
So I never set out to be a hypnotist, but as a result of the curious twists and turns of life and how I have met them, apparently a hypnotist is what the universe has chosen for me to become. After years of ambivalence, I have over the last couple finally come to a peaceful place with it and am these days following the sage advice of Wallace Wattles: “fill your current place fully.” I’m filling mine and ‘hypnotist’ is much of it.
And so to Changework: Travelling back, I never got into into hypnosis/practical psychology etc. to be a Changework 'gun for hire'. This only came later as a way to apply what I was acquiring professionally (thus creating a rewarding escape from the pendulum of the mainstream).
I actually just got into this stuff to be better able to create good outcomes in my own life and the immediate world I inhabited.
Now sometimes I still draw the distinction of 'agent of change in an office' versus 'agent of change in the world' (or 'Agent of Everything', to reflect the title of my Substack and podcast), but the reality is, on the deepest levels they're not really so different.
Because whether you're an agent of change in an office or an agent of change in the world most of the principles, skills and deepest understandings are the same...
In both contexts you want to be able to manage your own state/ground of being, think creatively, act strategically and always create towards your outcome with whatever comes up in the moment.
So now I love the hired gun work, but it's still not my first and truest love. That still is and always will be engaging creatively with the ongoing transformations of the world. Dancing the dance towards better outcomes and a better life. For myself, the people around me and maybe, just maybe, the bigger, wider world beyond.
So what about you? I’d love to know as a listener of AoE what your interests are in. What do you wish to be better at? What would you love to be able to create? What is the difference you would love to make in the world? Feel free to let me know below!
All the very best,
JT

I come to this after 50 + years of transcendental meditation. My quest is to understand and perhaps accelerate how we transform by sitting still for 20 minutes 2 x a day and experiencing the benifit of a deeply stilled mind. As a physio I got into hypnosis to help people manage persistant pain and miserable diagnosis. Hypnosis seemed like applied meditation but maybe more maybe less, I don't know. So I explore hypnosis to find out. How plastic is our reality.
I am a HYPNOVANGELIST, and you are one of the saints in my scripture! Do you ever listen to Jason Silva? And how are you with Graphotherapy?
