Thank you, James. I truly enjoyed this episode giving me another perspective on NLP. Initially I started to study it as I thought it was all about manipulation, and I did NOT want to fall prey to manipulation, which had happened too often. Diverging... I think it has happened to many movements - I am thinking about churches - where the initial person got an enlightened message, which was then turned into rules of beliefs and behaviors by the followers, and thus lost the initial intention and became ossified.
The trouble is, it is TRUE that NLP ideas and skills can be used for 'zero sum game' manipulation, even though they were originally for developing more freedom and personal power (power with rather than power over!).
Also, I’m just about to read Adam Eason’s new peer reviewed paper into the importance of the role of ‘self’ in hypnosis and hypnotherapy. The same could be said about NLP, in the idea of programming, installation and therefore non volition
Still listening at The Ugly. I got a little lost thereafter but 'that spirit that helps people change themselves and seeing different possibilities in the 🌎 resonated 💙
Really enjoyed listening to this episode :) You’re right about the outdated machine metaphor and inflexibility implicit in that. It doesn’t do it justice. IMO you’ve nailed the main points of what nlp is actually about. The younger generation could really benefit with some new ways of navigating the world we live in, nlp helps put reality in perspective. Meta..but not as they know it 😆! And so overdue for shedding the ‘ugly’ reputation

Hi Danielle
The trouble is, it is TRUE that NLP ideas and skills can be used for 'zero sum game' manipulation, even though they were originally for developing more freedom and personal power (power with rather than power over!).
Glad you enjoyed the episode!
